Preview of BLSS 11 (in development! A Christmas Special)

Download Mp3 (10mb) here

We’re gonna need a bigger boat!

You are not going to believe this but BLSS 11 is in testing already. I’m definitely on a roll. It’s definitely more fun to do two or three next to each other. Anyway, I plan to release this one just before Christmas Day. It’s going to be a double – BLSS11 and 12 together. 11 will be the usual weird music, it’s a goodie so far, and 12 will be some of my own back catalogue – in a hopefully nicely designed web-exclusive E.P.

BLSS 10 – The Manatee Edition Online Now!!!

I proudly present BLSS 10 – The Manatee Edition (link – 77mb 160kbps)

The proverbial buses. Two Bovine Life Support Systems within a couple of weeks of each other. See download page for full tracklistings and links to artists’ sites.

This edition is a bit of a special. A short story about a Manatee, or Sea Cow was released on my album “The Aesthetic Animals Album” by Benbecula Records, which you can preview here (a link to Benbecula Records Site)

On this BLSS, I split the story up into about ten micro-sections and spread it out across the tracks, which in the case of BLSS10 are a combination of either quite hard electronic IDM fused with some very blissed/blessed out numbers as the narrative goes on. As usual, I think I have made my favourite show. Again!!!

I sit here writing this at 7am with extremely painful stomach ache so there’s not much creativity or excitement in my purple prose today. But I think if you let the music do the talking there’ll be enough said. The things I do for the BLSS!

The mediafire download of the show is here

The next edition will be a Christmas 2xlength special, making it 12 shows before December 25th. (It’s really ten because Feb and March were one show also).

BLSS 10 in TESTING ALREADY!

There’s not going to be a delay with the next BLSS! Hurrah! I enjoyed making BLSS09 so much that I went on to the rigorous finding / testing stage of BLSS10 straightaway. It’s going to be quite a riot this one, quite loud then incredibly quiet. Some real digital hardcore and some gossamer thin introspection – the whole thing plays like a narrative of noise.

Can’t wait to upload it and record the intros.

It’s Here!!!

With pleasure I launch the ninth edition of The Bovine Life Support System : Hadron Collider Edition. I’ll have the tracklistings up by the end of the day (taken a day off work to do this!) but you can download it here (192kbps 120mb) or go to the listen page and preview it / stream it there!!! Thank Goodness, thanks for sticking with me on this one!!! NEW! alternate download here at smaller file size!

VSS200 Session – Eh

About three or four weeks ago I was in my local Salvation Army shop on Dumbarton Road in Glasgow. Actually I was only gazing through the window at a beloved 1980s sampling keyboard of old. Yamaha VSS-30… if you’re asking / selling. I thought I would ask to buy it.

When told I had to wait two weeks till it went into the public shop, at 9am on the table. I decided to get there at 9am. In fact, I got there at 8.30am just to be sure I would get this tactile vocal manger, this retro n-n-n-n-nineteen paul hardcastle stylee beauty. So beloved of “circuit benders”

Imagine my heavy heart when I spied the queue at the door.

But three were grannies. One was an indie-kid. I knew what he wanted. I resigned myself to defeat.

-Excuse me, are you here for the keyboard?

-yes.

-Ach, it’s yours then. Fair play to you.

-I’ve been here since 8am

-it’s the early bird etc.

So, I decided to try ebay. I was in retro-lust. I bid on one! I failed. I bid on another. Christ it went for £120!!!

I then decided, after much noodling on message boards that the VSS200 was almost as good, if not better in some respects. I bid again on ebay. I lost it. But it went back on sale! I bid £45 (they wanted £80) and got it plus £15 p&p.

I have just spent my first 24 hours with the machine. If you played the soundfiles that were me!
